  1. I have been writing exclusively using the iPad and the bluetooth keyboard, and I'm loving it. I write in Pages, then email myself a copy at the end of the day as a back up (I don't have the Cloud up yet on my laptop, the techies at the Apple Store said I should set it up first on my laptop before doing phone, iPads, etc.) It is a great way to write. The battery power is better than my laptop, the keyboard angle is better, it is more portable even with the keyboard.

  2. I took my iPad to VCCA, an artist colony for writers, composers and artists near Sweet Briar VA. We were hit by the Super Derecho and learned first-hand a downside of technology. No power for 11 days. In the mornings, I continued to work in my studio with the 105 degree heat and in the afternoons, groups of us drove around looking for cooling stations where we could charge our equipment. Still no internet. Only ice in the county was at the Amherst Jail that had been set-up as an emergency shelter. A bonding experience!

  3. Firstly, I am totally addicted to backgammon on the ipad but more importantly I have been using my ipad all summer as I have been travelling a lot. I have books and music stored on it and I have really appreciated its long battery life (Can't believe I didnt take one book in my suitcase for a five week visit to the UK). I am starting to type more quickly on it but it is still a sticking point. This week I have been exploring some new apps for languages and in particular searching podcasts that I could use in class as finding suitable listening material is always a challenge.

  4. So far the biggest moment for me was reading an iBook. I really do prefer it to the Kindle and it feels more like a book. I am hopeful more books will be available as none of the texts I am using are iBooks. I think it would be for my students than the kindle app.
